The relatives of teens unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an agonising wait for official news and appealing for clues about their children publicly.

The fire ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Verified images show the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another 119. Officials noted on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been identified, with the process ongoing to identify the other six.
