Dominant Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
